Aerospace Activities Flying Paper Card Models

Civil Air Patrol Cadet Aerospace Activities

The paper airplanes and rockets found here can be used to enhance the lessons and activities already in place in your squadron or classroom. They are constructed from heavy index cardstock (approx. 110 lb. weight, which may be purchased from your local office supply). Use your color printer to print the patterns on the cardstock, cut out the pieces, and assembled with "Elmer's" or "stick" glue. Some deigns require a few other supplies which are identified within. Click on the thumbnail images to go to instruction page of each model, then download the Word document of the pattern and print the patten image on heavy cardstock. "Estes" type Rockets

CAP Rocket - This rocket was designed to be used in the CAP Rocket Program. All you need is heavy card stock, elastic, modeling clay, glue, and Estes engines.

Egg Lifter - This payload bay can be used for the "egg lift" project to simulate the safe launch and recovery of a fragile biological "astronaut."

Booster Stage - This booster can be attached to the CAP Rocket as shown in this picture or a second booster stage can be added to make a three stage rocket.

Lemanski Dart - Here is a version of the CAP Rocket with fins designed by Chris Lemanski.

Card Stock Gliders

CAP Glider - This glider is easy to build and files really well. It can be used in your Aerospace Education program or just as a fun model to build.

Air Force Academy TG-4A Glider - This design flies quite well and is a good hands-on exercise in monocoque fuselage construction.

Wright Flyer - This airplane is based on the Wright Brothers design which made the first successful manned powered flight.

Cessna 172 - This is a 2D flying model of the C-172 in the new style CAP paint scheme.

Piper J-3 Cub - This is a 2D flying model of the Piper J-3 Cub. The paint seheme is like that used during World War II.

Lockheed Vega 5B - This is the aircraft in which Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic.

Ryan NYP "Spirit of St. Louis" - This is the aircraft in which Charles Lindbergh became the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic.

Bell X1 - This is the aircraft in which Chuck Yeager became the first person to fly faster than the speed of sound.

Rocket Altitude Tracking

Altitude Tracker - This can be used to measure the angle from the horizon to the rocket. Or use several and enter your observations in the Altitude Calculator.

Altitude Calculator - This Altitude Calculator is a JAVA applet that can be used to calculate the altitude and ground track of your rocket by entering the elevation angles and compass headings to the rocket apogee from several observation stations.
