First of all, it is suggested that you attend a few meetings to get a feel for how the Civil Air Patrol runs. If you decide you do want to join, you will be given a CAP Form 15, which needs to be fully filled out. Also, membership dues are needed for National Headquarters. Overall, the dues are $38.00 for cadets and $41.00 for seniors per year. The dues and form are forwarded to National Headquarters. From this point, you will be an official member of CAP, and will be an Airman Basic or a Senior Member. The Civil Air Patrol has a Free Uniform Program for cadets for the blues uniform, so it is suggested that you take part in it. The required uniforms are as follows:

Blues. The basic uniform is free if you send a Uniform Voucher for to National Headquarters. Items not included that are needed is the CAP insignia, nameplate, wing patch, and ribbons and other decorations. Total cost: about $30.

BDUs. You have to buy these. The blouse and trousers cost $50 together. You'll already have the CAP insignia and rank, so there is no need to buy those again. Blue belt, subdued black buckle, $3.75; BDU cover is about $5, boots can be found for under $30. Nametape and CAP breast badge, $3.75. Total cost for BDUs: About $90. Like the blues uniform, we have many of these items, plus you can find some items for less money than in the CAP Bookstore Catalog.
